How can we help?
Find answers about health data, sharing, testing sites, and your account.
Getting Started
Protecht lets you store and share your health test results securely. You can import results from Apple Health, find nearby testing sites, and share results with partners using encrypted, view-once QR codes.
Your health data is stored exclusively on your device — it is never uploaded to external servers.
Health Data
Go to the Health tab → Get Medical Records. On the import screen, tap Import from Apple Health and grant access. Lab results and immunizations linked in the Health app will be imported.
Protecht pulls your verified STI and vaccination records directly from your healthcare providers through Apple Health. Since adding or removing organizations happens in Apple Health (not Protecht), here's exactly how to do it.
Before you start: Check if your provider is supported. Not all healthcare providers are connected to Apple Health yet. Apple maintains a list of supported providers.
View Apple's supported providersHow to add a healthcare organization:
- 1Open the Apple Health app and tap your profile photo or initials in the top-right corner.
- 2Tap Health Records.
- 3If this is your first time, tap Get Started. Otherwise tap Add Account.
- 4Type the name of your healthcare organization and select it from the list.
- 5Tap Connect Account.
- 6Sign in with your provider's patient portal credentials (not your Apple ID).
- 7Confirm that you want to share your health data with Apple Health.
You can repeat this to connect multiple providers — for example, if you've tested at different clinics or labs.
- 1Open the Apple Health app.
- 2Tap your profile photo or initials in the top-right corner.
- 3Tap Health Records.
- 4Tap the provider you want to remove.
- 5Scroll to the bottom and tap Remove Account.
Once connected, come back to Protecht and tap Get Medical Records (top-left of the Health tab) to fetch your latest records. Protecht does not update automatically.
A few things to know:
- Your data stays on your device. Records transfer from your provider to your iPhone via Apple Health. Protecht reads it locally — never uploaded to external servers.
- Your provider login is separate from your Apple ID. You'll need the username and password for your provider's patient portal (e.g., MyChart, Kaiser, UCSF Health).
- Records may take a moment to appear. After connecting, give it a minute before tapping Get Medical Records.
On the Health tab, use the filter chips (All, Negative, Positive, Pending) to narrow your lab results. Use the search field to find by test type or provider name.
Immunization records are imported from Apple Health and appear in the Vaccinations section on the Health tab.
Sharing
Go to the Share tab → Send Health Data. Choose which results to share, then show the QR code to the receiver. Data is encrypted and sent when they scan.
Go to Share tab → Receive Health Data. Scan the sender's QR code. You'll see their shared results for 60 seconds — the view is view-once and auto-expires.
Shared data is end-to-end encrypted and viewable for 60 seconds, then it's gone. Transmission happens directly between devices when in proximity via QR code.
Go to Profile → Sharing Privacy. Choose what appears when you share: nickname, birthdate or age only, and profile photo. These settings apply to all shares.
Find Testing
Use the Find Testing tab. Enter a city, state, or ZIP code and tap Search. Results show nearby testing locations. Tap a result for details and directions.
Account & Subscription
Go to Profile → Edit Profile. Update your first and last name, nickname, birthdate, and profile photo. This info can be included when sharing if you enable it in Sharing Privacy.
Go to Profile → Subscription. View your current plan (Free or Protecht+), renewal date, and manage your subscription through Apple.
Privacy & Security
Go to Profile and toggle Face ID or Touch ID to lock the app with biometrics.
Health data is stored on your device and encrypted. When sharing, data is encrypted end-to-end and transmitted only between the two devices during the share. No health data is ever stored on Protecht's servers.
